‘Light at the end of the tunnel’: Injunction a win for Miccosukee against Alligator Alcatraz

A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Department of Homeland Security to cease construction and stop taking new detainees at Alligator Alcatraz in Florida

Thank you Amelia! Excellent work. My mom and I read this in the morning. Now she’s looking into what kind of pie she’d like to make, that’s her hope of the day I gather, pie-making. My dad, I sent him the link, although he keeps up with the headlines so he’s likely more informed than I am.

Keeping up… this is a skill, yes, and a dangerous one. Coffee can be a controlled substance, if you know how to control what you put into your body.

“It felt like a light at the end of the tunnel,” [Betty Osceola] said. “But the preliminary injunction means that now, more than ever, we need to make sure our documentation is on point. Anything that’s coming in, we need to get it on film and footage because we may need it later on.”

Do you hear the call for film and footage?

CNN (who did not even deign to include the name of the Miccosukee people in their latest on this matter) once told me, anyone with a phone can make the news. The Orlando Sentinel would probably hire me if I walked in through their doors with the right attitude, but they paywall their news, so why would I bother? Whereas ICT did the job of journalism.

My family has a history of issues with hunger — starvation and force feeding both, because of course, those go hand in hand. I mean not only in our lifetimes, although, yes, in our lifetimes, but also in our ancestry. Because of this, we have a responsiblity to each other, to enjoy our meals together and treat them with a deep respect.

What this means depends on the moment, the time, the context. Last night we went out to a wonderful restaurant, and my mom likes looking up what people say on, what is it, FourSquare?

Some guy says, everything was amazing, except the eggplant.

We’re drinking, laughing together, trying to decide what to get. I don’t want to even think about it, everything looks so good, let’s share.

Okay, I can make one contribution to the ideas: we gotta get the eggplant. See what it’s about!

Well, that guy was right. Everything was amazing, but the eggplant could use some work.

I can use work too. What about you?

Lovek
